Note
(2 Dn) "Verbal attacks cause mad spuming (7)" works out to be IMPUGNS*
but 'impugns' is a verb while 'verbal attacks' is a noun. I was misled by the deduction to fit in a noun. "rebukes cause mad spuming" may sound more appropriate. here rebukes could be a noun as well as a verb. please correct me if I'm wrong.
Enjoyed the crossie. keep up the good work!
